Want to support local businesses while you are here? Looking for something artisan handmade and unique for you or as a gift for a loved one? Here is a list of places in Shkoder that are a bit off the beaten path, but we believe to be very worthwhile.
Olive Wood Store
In this store awaits an assortment of unique items including earrings, necklaces, boxes, kitchen utensils, artwork, and cutting boards all hand carved from olive wood. Each piece has a unique look as no two pieces of wood are the same.
Hand loomed fabrics turned into bags, pillowcases, table clothes, aprons, dresses, and travel cases, this store has a beautiful variety of patterns, colors, and charm. Gjino Mjeda has been open since 1992 but the tradition has been in their family for much longer. The proof is in the artisan product!.
A local artist that we would like to highlight for his interesting work with lithography. Lithography is “the process of printing from a flat surface treated so as to repel the ink except where it is required for printing”. This collection portrays memorable snapshots of local life and we think they serve as a great souvenir. Shpetim’s lithography is for sale and displayed in his shop window. Pass by when you are on the Pedonale!
A quaint little restaurant where you can find for sale handmade & recycled items including but not limited to jewelry, scarves, bags, and embroidered items. The sustainment of the restaurant as well as the creation of these many unique items is all made possible by local women in need and the proceeds of this endeavor funnels right back to them.
